This lecture is #1 of 4 of our Beyond Religion Summer Lunch and Learn Series with professors from the Religious Studies Department of the University of Houston.
Dr. Dogan Koc provides an introduction to Islam, its core beliefs, practices, and history. This class will include an introduction to central texts of Islam: the Qur’an and Hadith, central beliefs and the major practices. In his lecture, Dr. Koc will also explore the main similarities and differences between Islam and Christianity.

Dr. Dogan Koc is the Executive Director of the University of Houston’s Gulen Institute, a non-profit research organization dedicated to the promotion of peace and civic welfare.
The Gulen Institute maintains an international focus that is unique in Houston, and its primary goal is to advance original academic work in the areas of Conflict Resolution, Poverty, and Education that articulates the challenges faced by global communities and theorizes possible solutions.
